“The Little Red Wagon”

“The Little Red Wagon”

Greetings, Dear Friends ~

I pray you know the love of God, which exceeds our finite capacity to understand!  It is my privilege to offer today’s Selah blog article, “The Little Red Wagon.”

Little red wagons were first constructed in 1917; and eventually, millions of children enjoyed playing with them!  I did a little research and found this interesting information:

“No one could have thought about happiness, a simple toy which doest have too much mechanism could bring to their faces and make them a child again.  “The sole and most important reason behind celebrating this day is to make everyone remember the small child who always remains buried in our hearts due to all the various external factors. We should not let that child who laughs freely and enjoys life in its true senses.”1

I learned that people celebrate National Little Red Wagon Day on the last Wednesday of every month in March.  It is a day to take a break, to focus on the simplicity of childhood, and bring out your little red wagon (if you still have it!). I believe there is great value in simplicity and being childlike in our dependence on the Lord, while appreciating that not everyone shares fond, childhood memories.  Today, however, I want to focus on the contents of the little red wagon, and not the wagon itself.

My Friends, I want to ask a question (one that I ask myself as well), namely:  What’s in your (my) little red wagon?

Maybe you have not given it much thought, but we are all carting around some-thing.  Picture yourself with your wagon, and visualize yourself taking it by the handle … pulling it with you everywhere you go—up and down hills, around corners, to work or school, while you go shopping, and even into your dreams as your process things that were unsettled during your busy day!!!

Your little red wagon might have a long list of ‘to-do items’; dreams, visions, and goals; or things you have not yet had the chance to cross of your list!  Nevertheless, day after day, you carry your wagon!

Now, this, in no way means that everything in your (my) wagon needs to go!  However, we should be cognizant and intentional about what we allow people to offload into our wagon!  Perhaps, someone has tried to dump things they should be taking care of into your wagon.  Instead of saying, “No,” you receive it—increasing the weight of what you have to carry when the Lord never intended for it to be yours in the first place! (And you wonder why you are tired?!)

Food for thought:

  • Other people’s stuff is probably in your wagon!
  • There are things that other people are capable of doing for themselves in your wagon!
  • There are dreams and visions in your wagon that you drag around year after year and never do anything about fulfilling them!
  • There are fears and frustrations that are in your wagon that the Lord wants you to release to Him!
  • There are things in your wagon that you need to give to God and trust Him to take care of—for you (instead of dragging them around).

My Friends, it is time to take inventory!  It is time to assess what is in our wagons—what we need to keep and fulfill; what we need to return to its rightful owner; and what we need to simply throw away!  So, get out your little red wagon, take inventory, and let’s get moving!  Your load will be much lighter once you get it done!  I believe you can do it!!!

Thank you, once again, for allowing me to share with you! May our God fill your life to the brim and allow you to see the overflow! This is my prayer for you as you remember my mantra . . . This world is definitely a much better place because you are in it!

God’s peace and blessings!

Until Next Time, My Dear Friends,

Selah
