“Answer to an Unspoken Prayer”

Greetings, Dear Friends in Christ –

It’s a blessing to be able to share with you on the topic, “Answer to an Unspoken Prayer.”

We are witnessing times filled with good and bad, chaos and peace, joy and sorrow.  News headlines can seem overwhelming with recent tragedies such as those happening in Haiti and Kabul.  The effect of the coronavirus pandemic across the country is hard to watch—especially with regard to the rise in cases among children.  Some of us have not been able to find the right words to express our feelings to the Lord.

How often have we prayed—awaiting an answer for what seemed like forever?  Indeed some prayers take a very long time to be answered.  However, what I have noticed is how we change while awaiting God’s response.  When we wait for God’s answers (for example, “yes,” “no,” “wait awhile,” or even “silence”) with the expectation that His answer is best for us—we change during the process.  Somehow, we become stronger as we persevere through the process of waiting.  We become stronger when we know that God is listening to us.  We become stronger when we know that others are also praying for us. This leads to another question….

How often have we benefited from the prayers of others? One of the beautiful things about being a part of a group or community of faith is that we have the support of others—their prayers for us, our families, and our overall wellbeing. We find strength in the fact that other people are praying on our behalf—particularly when we don’t have the strength to pray for ourselves.  Without even saying a word, others may sense something is wrong and be prompted to pray for us.  These are the unspoken prayers—prayed for us . . . often when we need them the most.  As we are strengthened, we are positioned to also pray for someone else…. what a circle of prayer!

I want to consider one last question:  How often have we been an answer to someone’s unspoken prayer?   There is absolutely no shortage of things for which to pray; no shortage of people, who need our prayers . . . who need us!  When we are so touched by someone else’s trials, we can be the answer to someone else’s unspoken prayer . . . prayers that are not uttered, but needed.  The one thing we should always covet and equally give—is prayer.  No one ever has to know that we are praying for them.  I have been awakened in the middle of the night with someone’s face or name on my heart, and have been moved to pray for them.  I believe that God does the moving by His Divine Spirit.  And, when all else seems to fail, when we can’t find the words or when no one is around, remember that our tears are prayers too!  So let prayer take on the form needed most—knowing that God hears us when we pray.  Be the answer to someone’s unanswered prayer.  You will be glad that you did!

Until next time, My Friend,

Selah
